Is PharmD Becoming the “Jack of All Trades, Master of None”?

PharmD graduates today are expected to know a bit of everything clinical skills, hospital practice, research, pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, medical writing, and even industry insights.

But here’s the debate:

  • Does this broad exposure make PharmD graduates versatile problem-solvers?
  • Or does it risk diluting expertise, leaving them less competitive compared to specialized degrees (like MPH, MBA, MSc Clinical Research, etc.)?

What do you think?Should PharmD programs evolve into more focused tracks (clinical, research, industry, writing, etc.) to prepare students better for careers?
