My reading journey was quite off the beaten path compared to what most readers do. I didn’t begin with a love of reading books but out of curiosity to explore how human behaviour and the brain work. It was more inclined towards learning and gaining knowledge of the unknown world not included in the academic syllabus.
I started with The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy, moving on to Thinking Straight by Darius Foroux. I was drawn towards these books for my inner growth, curiosity about how the mind works, learning, gaining insights and deeper understanding. For me, this was what a book should serve to its readers but it all changed after getting my hands on Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa.
Looking at this book sitting at the exhibition of a book stall, it just made me want to buy it. It was not on purpose that someone recommended me to buy it. It was random. After reading, it turned out to be one of my favorite books. This book showed me that reading is not only about learning but far beyond that, it is an experience. It is about slowing down from a busy life and finding comfort in quiet moments. This book showed me that apart from information, the actual purpose of reading is providing a safe place for its reader to be imaginative and get connected with each character and travel to all the unimaginative places.
What started as a journey of knowledge gradually became a journey of connection. Connecting with the stories, the emotions and somewhat knowing and finding myself as a more creative and imaginative person. This book will always hold a special place on my shelf for introducing me to such an incredible genre as a reader.
Every reader has a beginning. Here was mine. Do share your experience as a reader and tell me about your first book that started your reading journey.
I started reading books because I got bored of watching the same typical love stories in serials and web series. So, I picked up the book because I already loved watching — and now reading — love stories.
Then, I suddenly picked up a book by an Indian author based on Sita’s point of view. I was amazed by how imaginatively an author can write about such a great personality from a different perspective. Only a few chapters are left for me to finish it, and I’m really enjoying the journey.
@Sakshi_Verma I would say I’m not a good book reader I always prefer listening books so I used to prefer audio book reader, that was quite good for people who like to listen, which eventually lead to hearing loss…
Now present I prefer hand books and that’s fantastic and I like it …
I remember the first time i read a book, it was only and only because my english teaher forced me to read geronimo stilton. I havent put down books since then. Books are a way of healing , of peace, of calm, of escape as well as strike touch of reality. Books were my first best friend and have been with me since.
Reading often starts with gaining knowledge but gradually becomes more about connection, reflection, and experience. The first meaningful book often shapes how we see reading beyond just learning.
Dedicating your time to read giving time for your inner self!
It doesn’t have to be something extreme, urgent or an obligation. Reading starts when time stops. When the busy life cycle comes to a halt. You want to read something to just relax, spend quality time with yourself and genuinely be in love with the book.
My first book was an autobiography of my favorite actor. I was so in love with his character and his real life personality yet troubled by what he faced in his life. I was very curious, wanted to know everything directly from his book in his words. I loved the book. It was very brave and very deeply meaningful.
