I joined MDS right after completing my BDS, but I struggled with my lack of experience as a general dentist during the initial days of my career.
For those considering a future in general dentistry or opening a clinic, I recommend taking a one-year gap before pursuing an MDS. This time helps you understand the clinic environment, patients, and procedures without the pressure of entrance exams. You can always learn general dentistry later, but it’s best to build a solid foundation first.

Perfect… Taking a gap and exploring clinical and non- clinical options
Should get to know the market, how patients flow works, clinical skills,
Needed techniques and updated skills, do some certification courses etc…

I have a different opinion on this.
Though clinical experience is needed, letting go of a year isn’t advisable.

Yes if you have decided to pursue MDS, there is no point in waiting one more year to learn general dentistry.. Because you will ultimately open your own clinic and learn general dentistry in your practice.
But if you are only planning to be a consultant after MDS, its always good to build a network in GP, so that you can go back to those clinics as a consultant. What do you say?
