Indian Pharmacy Graduate Turns to Content Creation, Sparking Debate on Job Struggles and Academic Pressure

A recent video of a Doctor of Pharmacy graduate from Hyderabad discussing her journey into health blogging and medical content creation has gone viral — drawing praise, criticism, and deep reflection from healthcare students across India. The graduate opened up about lack of job opportunities, internship exploitation, and how she turned to social media to build a career.

However, the success of her channel has not come without backlash. She claims she was discouraged by faculty members from speaking publicly, warning that such content could “damage the image” of the profession and “discourage future aspirants.”

Institution’s Stance: Supportive or Silencing?

In response to the viral video, the college administration issued a neutral statement:

“We respect all career paths pursued by our graduates, including entrepreneurship and digital health communication. We do not restrict free expression as long as it is professional and ethical.”
– Statement from an unnamed official, Health Sciences Institute, Telangana

Yet, several students reported that internal discussions suggest a growing discomfort within academic circles, especially when students highlight the career reality openly on social platforms.

This growing divide between institutional pride and graduate realities is triggering important conversations around career preparedness, youth empowerment, and the evolving identity of healthcare professionals in the digital age.

I can see the pain, disrespect and lack of respect she got despite of her hardwork. I wish she can follow her passion in content creation and blogging and educate more people in good way

If it’s damaging the image then why don’t they uplift it by themselves by doing something good about the students. We literally get less pay after having a professional degree, there are mostly no WFH, least vacancies everytime for freshers and all. After pursuing a professional degree when you see your friends from other sectors earnings’ as fresher is equal to your earning at a Pharma sector job after 2 years of experience, it will break your confidence. All she spoke is truth in behalf of us and got this. Why don’t reform your policies rather than stopping others to confront about the truth. This is so foolish.

The gap between academic preparation and career in healthcare sector is as real as blood in everyone’s veins.

Institutions should support students in navigating professional online presence while addressing concerns around job opportunities, exploitation, and career uncertainty. Proper guidance can help bridge this gap.
