Delhi has registered substantially increased number of H1N1 influenza cases this season. Last year during the same time period around 230 cases of swine flu were registered. While this year, the number of cases has increased to about 2300.
H1N1 is a seasonal infection caused by subtype of influenza A virus also called as swine flu. It is called swine flu because of it’s genetic origin related to pigs. But there is no sign of direct human to pig infection in swine flu infections. These infections are transmitted from human to human contact.
Basic but important practices to prevent the infection
- Frequent washing of hands
- Using N95 masks in crowded and high risk places
- Using sanitiser
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth when outside.
As and when symptoms arrive individuals should practice isolation if there are kids and old age people in house. And should get doctor’s advise on treatment and not treat themselves using antibiotics because in cases of influenza are viral infections and they are not killed by antibiotics.
