Importance of being grateful about the ability to learn

I have always loved learning.
Not the kind of learning that we practice in our institutions; stocking up our heads with facts, memorizing and cramming anything and everything just for the sake of getting away with the exams. For me learning was about galvanizing my mind with new words ,reading, exploring and just contemplating over the amazing creations of the Almighty.

Honestly speaking,
I have not given much attention to my lectures during the first year of my college. I would just sit there wondering, my thoughts then felt like floater in the bloodstream, drifting aimlessly. Basically, I was just raining on my parade. But, I had to weather the storm, I knew.

The only place that I loved going back to was the anatomy dissection hall.
The whole atmosphere of the place with its horrendous ambience and smell of formalin did spark my interest. The cadavers there reminded me of death, each time I came across it. And in some way I did find comfort in the fact that whatever I’m going through is transitory just like our life in this fleeting world and that death is the ultimate reality.
The wide variety of specimens and bones there made me ponder over the human body, its functions, quirks, and mysteries.

It was during one of our sleepy afternoon sessions,
our Anatomy professor mentioned about the jugular veins.

Jugular veins are key players in the circulation and drainage systems to the brain, face and neck.
Most important is to drain the brain.
If you block the jugular veins, the pressure in the brain goes up.*

Hit me then like a comet.
Jugular vein.

It then took me some time to realize what I was missing out being negligent and obsessing over my regret of not choosing a particular field I always wanted to get into.

I then decided to address the elephant in the room, derail my trajectory and be grateful for the opportunity that I’m bestowed with to learn, ponder, reflect and do something beneficial for the society in someway possible.

I share your perspective on this that how negligent we become and take it all for granted. But i guess this is due to our current education system we fail to enjoy the process of learning. We prioritise moving forward rather than understanding. Bounded by scores we tend to achieve them only and neglect about gaining knowledge.

So well written. We do sometimes take everything for granted, and then guilt hits us

Being mindful and staying grateful, will help us lead a peaceful life.
