Identity Foreclosure — fear we are nothing without Hospital Rank

At some point in life it must have hit many- Did we choose the right path? While many are leaving their hard earned PG seat .

The flawed system -

Exhaustion became badge of honour

Surviving residency matter more than living through it.

It has always been normalized -

  • MD doctors are expected to work more than 10 hours per week.
  • Being told that’s how you are going to learn.
  • Toxicity that the residents face.
  • More than 50% medicos are under excessive clerical work.
  • No time for food and sleep

The biggest irony: There are MD doctors taking pills for depression and anxiety

Physician are 2.5 times higher risk of committing a suicide.

And somewhere in all this—Do we stop being individuals and start becoming just ranks?

Maybe identity foreclosure doesn’t happen suddenly—Maybe it happens quietly, every time we ignore who we are to fit into what we’re expected to be.

Yes. We always think after completing education it’s over and now we are professionals. But that joy slowly turns into worries, expectations because nobody told us struggle starts after education.

So true. It’s high time we stop romanticizing the struggle and start addressing the toxicity and burnout.
