How do you sterilize dental instruments

This is the method that i follow after basic procedures.

  1. Wash - Manual scrubbing of instruments to remove larger debris and soak them in solutions.(diluted sodium hypochlorite or hygrogen peroxide for removal of minor debris, not more than 5min)
  2. Clean - Wash and place the instruments in ultrasonic cleaning to remove all debris.
  3. Sterilization - Wash and dry them. Place it in Sterilization pouches and autoclave them.(preferably class B autoclave)
4.Storage - Once cooled store them in a closed cabinet / uv chamber.

This should be universal but many clinics do not follow this. They don’t use ultrasonic cleaning. The don’t have class b autoclave.

Sterlisation is important step in dental setup

There are three types of sterilizers that are commonly used in dental :

  • Steam sterilization (autoclave)

  • Dry heat sterilization

  • Unsaturated chemical vapor sterilization

Every Dental Clinic Should Strictly follow this Method.

This approach ensures instruments are meticulously cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized before use. Proper storage in a closed cabinet or UV chamber keeps them safe and sterile for future procedures.
