Organic or regular? It’s a common question when choosing what goes on our plate. But is organic food always healthier?
Organic food is produced according to organic farming standards, with restrictions on certain synthetic pesticides and fertilisers.
Regular food is conventionally produced and may use approved pesticides and fertilisers within regulated limits.
From supermarket shelves to social media, organic food has become more than a trend and has become a growing part of today’s health-conscious lifestyle. People are increasingly looking for foods they believe are cleaner, safer and better for their health. But with the higher price tag and growing popularity comes an important question: Is organic food really healthier than regular food?
WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT:
Choosing organic can reduce exposure to certain agricultural chemicals, but it does not automatically make a food more nutritious. So more importance should be on-
- Instead of focusing only on the label, focus on the whole plate: More fruits and vegetables.
- Whole grains and pulses.
- Nuts and healthy protein sources.
- Safe, hygienic food.
- Variety and moderation.
Just remember “Organic” may describe how food is grown, but balance determines how well you eat.
