  • Adverse pregnancy outcome of poor periodontal health is low weight baby
  • If the birth weight is less than 2500g, it is called low and to be noted that very low is 1500g, and extremely low is 1000g

Absolutely true, Naina. Female hormones indeed play a crucial role in periodontal health. I’ve seen a bunch of pregnant females presenting to the OPD with swollen gums, which we famously call pregnancy gingivitis. They can also develop something called a pregnancy tumor, especially in the interdental papilla area.

It reminds us that dental care isn’t just about oral health; it has massive implications for systemic and reproductive health. Early diagnosis and timely intervention can truly prevent severe complications.
