Should euthanasia be allowed in our country?
What would be the pros and cons for the same?
Isn’t mercy killing better than painful yearlong struggle?
It is like a coin… While it is a crime in some countries, it is allowed in others.
Legalizing something that can be fatal, could be misused by the people in the authority however, sometimes it becomes important to end someone’s pain and suffering…
Still a very debatable topic…
Euthanasia is a complex and debated topic.
Some view it as a mercy, allowing terminally ill patients to end their suffering and die with dignity.
Others see it as a form of punishment or a slippery slope that devalues human life.
Perspectives on euthanasia vary widely depending on cultural, ethical and personal beliefs.
My personal view is that such decision should lie in hands of close ones, after approval from the hospital.
Euthanasia should be allowed but strictly controlled under the law.
Euthanasia should be legalized for those in need
Nobody should suffer in vegetative state if there is no scope for improvement.
But the conditions should be well defined for legalizing euthanasia
Euthanasia is a topic that brings mixed emotions. To live in a decapacitated manner is to live without dignity. But legalising active euthanasia is also against right to life.
Euthanasia offers dignity in death but poses ethical risks. With proper safeguards, informed consent, and palliative support, it can be a compassionate option for those enduring unbearable, irreversible suffering.
for some patients, euthanasia may seem more humane than forcing them to endure agonizing pain or a vegetative state. But this is precisely why the distinction between passive and active euthanasia exists in law — to allow natural withdrawal of treatment when life is unsustainable, while still maintaining safeguards.
Mercy killing is one of the most emotionally volatile topics in medicine and ethics. For many it represents a way to relieve the suffering of their loved ones, especially those who are terminally ill with no chance of recovery. On the other hand, it can be misused, pressuring the physical and emotionally vulnerable patients to end their lives prematurely. Balancing respecting the person’s choice and valuing life should be considered because does helping end life break their oath or show compassion?
The answer may be different and depend on practicality and emotions of an individual.
For someone who is more practical would think that ending the sufferings of a person is better than having false hopes and make the patient suffer .
For someone who is more emotional would think that even if there is 1 percent chance of someone being better again then suffering of some time may make sense
But legalizing the same would lead to people misusing the same.
It should be a right of the persons close ones to decide what they want.
Euthanasia: Mercy or Punishment?
I personally feel euthanasia also known as mercy killing can be both mercy or punishment
It depends on the situation if the person is undergoing an unbearable pain he or she cannot let him live with that pain no one deserve to live like that. Therefore euthanasia when done with compassion, empathy and safeguards is mercy but perspectives changes from person to person.
Euthanasia is considered as a mercy when the patient gives consent for the death. Passive euthanasia is legal in India which includes the withdrawal of the life sustaining medication which is provided to the patient. Active euthanasia is illegal which consists of death of the patient against the consent. I believe that instead of the person suffering for a long time, he/she should give consent for death.
Euthanasia it’s a complicated topic. If It’s perform with patients consent then it’s a marcy. If people misused it then it is a punishment. It’s totally depends on it’s use.
Euthanasia is a double edged sword. While one could argue that for someone going through unbearable suffering for which they cannot find a solution a controlled way to voluntarily end one’s life might be a blessing, pain is a subjective concept and there is always a risk of misuse of the option. Strict guidelines need to be in place to even consider legalising the process.
Euthanasia or mercy killing in layman’s term is a debatable topic. While it could be considered as mercy for patients suffering from terminal diseases, there is a high chance that it could be misused. Euthanasia could be legalized and the court could decide on granting it after hearing the case. If it’s not legalized it can be misused by the immediate relative/spouse in case of ay disputes if the person to be euthanized is unconscious/ comatosed and couldn’t make the decision by themselves. Or it could be misused by peoples with suicidal tendencies. But it’s a boon to end the lifelong sufferings of patients with terminal diseases.
Remember every coin has two sides
In many countries euthanasia is allowed but under dire medical conditions with appropriate supervision of experts to allow more painless and easy death
How ever it should only be reserved for extreme cases like that of: - Rabies, any form of cancers, etc
How there have been reports of individuals performing it without any qualification or expertise leading to a fading belief from responsible owners
Pros:- Ease from pain, population cap can be maintained, animals can be saved from longterm pain and suffering
Cons: - Involvement of under qualified professionals which could hamper the peaceful process
Euthanasia is an emotional issue. It can offer relief from unbearable suffering and respect a person’s choice. But it also raises tough moral questions—protecting life while respecting one’s dignity.Mercy killing may seem kinder, but strict safeguards are essential to prevent abuse and maintain dignity.
Euthanasia is a debatable topic for very much countries but giving a sudden death to some criminals who had done a huge crime like ( rapists/ terrorists etc ) is not a good option they should suffer the mistake they had upto life time so that the other persons couldnt try to do those crimes
Euthanasia allows terminally ill patients to end their suffering with dignity. Supporters see it as a compassionate choice, while critics fear misuse and ethical concerns. Its legalization requires strict safeguards and careful consideration.
Would vote in favour of this argument because one should have the right to choose when or how they want their lives to end . It can prevent the patient from suffering unnecessary pain.
As a student, the euthanasia debate feels incredibly complex. On one hand, ending unbearable suffering seems merciful, but those who wants to see someday they care about endure constant pain? Could it ever become a punishment, if someone feels pressured, or if proper medical care isn’t available? It’s a heavy ethical dilemma.
