Lyrical music is a great way to unwind, relax, or uplift your mood. However, you know that it also serves as a switch-off button to your thoughts, as it actively involves a major part of the brain.
When listening to songs becomes part of your every chore—traveling, reading, writing, cleaning, walking, etc.—it surely makes the work more enjoyable and less daunting. But at the same time, keeping your ears and mind plugged in with music in every activity and everytime numbs your thoughts. And, as soon as it becomes habit, you just can’t sit with yourself or do any chore without music.
Thinking is important for us to reflect on our lives, so we should consciously take out the time to look into our thoughts and not use music as an escapism tool. Also, one should develop the habits of enjoying chores without songs.
Songs are a great way to lose yourself in the rhythms and lyrics, but listening to them should not become a way to disconnect you from your inner and outer worlds.
