We all know someone who finishes their meal in 5 minutes flat…
And someone else who eats like they’re sipping tea with time.
But does the speed at which you eat really affect your digestion?
Turns out - yes, it does.
Eating too fast can:
Overload your stomach
Reduce proper chewing (first step of digestion!)
Cause bloating, gas, and indigestion
Lead to overeating and weight gain
Eating slowly:
Helps you chew thoroughly
Gives your brain time to register fullness
Aids smoother digestion
Keeps your portion size in check
So next time you eat, try slowing down. Your gut and your mind will thank you.
What about you ? Are you a fast eater or a slow one? Have you ever tried mindful eating?
Eating too fast can cause digestive issues like gas, bloating, can increase the risk of metabolic syndrome, blood pressure and obesity. So, it is always better to eat slowly to maintain good health.
I’m very much of a slow eater. The food that we cook with so much of optimization, we should take time to enjoy every bit of that too, that’s what I believe. It gives a different level of mental satisfaction, warmth, and a bit of healthiness is also what I feel each time. Slow eating allows me to observe my food, it’s color, smell, and taste and I can observe this meal as something like a medicine I’m taking for my health. This process of mindful eating allows me to build my health in a suitable and content manner.
Yes, eating speed affects digestion. Eating too fast can cause bloating, gas, and overeating because the brain doesn’t get time to signal fullness. Chewing less also makes it harder for the stomach to break down food. Eating slowly helps chew food better, improves digestion, and makes you feel full on time, which can prevent overeating and keep your stomach comfortable.
