Digital body arrest: upcoming pandemic

Introduction

Before we blame ourselves for any diseases or illnesses, consider the results of ignorance, inappropriate rest, overwork, stress, diet, lack of awareness, self-care, etc. Nowadays, technology is taking this credit away from us as well.

There is a very famous saying that our body is like a machine; if it doesn’t stay active, it will become rusty.

Let’s discuss some syndromes and diseases instigated by technology.

:round_pushpin: Tech/text neck syndrome—continuous forward movements of the neck and shoulders, also known as “forward head posture,” while using mobile phones or computers for extended periods of time. This led to remarkable pressure on cervical muscles, resulting in a greater load placed on neck and joint muscles.

:round_pushpin: Carpal tunnel syndrome—persistent typing and use of a mouse may leave the wrist numb and tingling and weaken the hand and grip strength.

:round_pushpin: Computer vision syndrome (myopia)—Prolonged screen time causes headaches, dry eyes, and blurred vision.

:round_pushpin: Thumb tendonitis (whatsappitis)—overuse of the thumb may cause swelling and aches.

:round_pushpin: Digital dementia—cognitive decline owing to a lower attention span and over-relying on tech gadgets for navigation, information, and memory.

:round_pushpin: Techsomnia, or vamping—blue light emitted from digital devices can hinder the production of melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep cycle.

:round_pushpin: Nomophobia—fear, anxiety, and stress from being detached from a smartphone make people feel discomfort.

Indirect Implications

These all are direct impacts of increasing screen time and excessive use of digital gadgets. Long sitting hours make us lazy, lead to less physical activity, and promote obesity. We all know well it’s linked with many diseases, such as

:small_orange_diamond:Steatotic (fatty liver disease)

Yes, very true. the digit arrest have greatly influenced our lifestyle, and habitat.

So true. Apart from this, I think people have also lost the ability to connect deeply with people around them or go outside, meet new people and build new relationships.

Thought-provoking post! I think people are losing interest in life. This digital arrest is making humans more like a machine. Eventually humans are losing interest in real relations, talks, emotions which actually made them “humans.”

Modern technology, modern problems. Disrupted sleep and mental fatigue are also symptoms of digital syndrome. Very informative post, thanks for sharing this.

Very great post mam. “Screen-Induced Insomnia” is another growing concern. Excessive screen time, especially before bed, can suppress melatonin production, making it harder to fall asleep and affecting overall sleep quality.

Very rightly said, digital arrest has a great impact in our lives. We can’t imagine a day without our phones, laptop or any other such devices. We are slowly becoming dependent on these devices.
