What is the medication?

​Orlynvah is a co-formulated, oral bilayer tablet consisting of 500mg suloprnem etzadroxil and 500mg probenecid.

Sulopenem etzadroxil is an oral prodrug of sulopenem, a broad-spectrum thiopenem. The prodrug itself has minimal antibacterial properties but is rapidly hydrolyzed by intestinal esterases into its active form, sulopenem, upon absorption.

The introduction of an effective oral penem offers massive healthcare and systemic advantages:

I think an oral carbapenem could be a major step forward in managing resistant infections, especially by reducing hospital admissions and dependence on IV antibiotics.

With increasing prevalence of multi-drug resistance organisms, sulopenem can be better drug choice especially in individuals with uncomplicated UTI caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria. This can also provide better convenience to out patients and reduce dependance on IV formulations, potentially improving patient comfort and adherence.
