🌱 “Can Plants Get Cancer? And Could Studying That Help Cure Ours?”

We often associate cancer with humans and animals — uncontrolled cell growth, tumors, and metastasis. But what about plants?

:dna: Do plants get cancer?

Yes — sort of. Plants can develop uncontrolled cell growths (like galls or tumors), often triggered by bacteria like Agrobacterium tumefaciens.

But here’s the twist:

:small_blue_diamond: These “plant tumors” don’t spread to other parts (no metastasis).

:small_blue_diamond: The plant usually survives and continues growing around the abnormal cells.

:small_blue_diamond: Their rigid cell walls and structured tissue limit chaos.

:glowing_star: Could plants teach us cancer control?

Scientists are now asking:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: How do plant cells control mutated growth?

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Can we replicate plant-like barriers to stop tumor spread in humans?

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Could the plant’s genetic response to cellular damage be used in human gene therapy?

:test_tube: Even NASA has studied plant tumors in space to understand cell signaling under stress.

:stethoscope: Research into plant tumor immunity might unlock revolutionary tools for cancer prevention and healing in humans.

:light_bulb: If we stopped treating cancer like a war, and started learning from nature’s calm control systems…
:herb: Could the cure be growing in silence all along?

:red_question_mark::brain: “If plants evolved to survive tumors, should modern medicine take inspiration from their biological wisdom?”
Let’s rethink cancer — not just with force, but with nature’s intelligence.

The fact that plants can develop tumor like growths yet manage to keep them contained shows how intelligent nature really is.

There’s so much for us to learn from nature.

Incredible how even plants may hold clues to solving human cancer. While they don’t metastasize, their ability to contain abnormal growth is something we can transform into our medication.

This is new to me! Havent seen anything like this before! Thank u for sharing.

When we hear about cancer, it comes to mind that they don’t have much to live. But plants do live even after having cancer; it’s a great resilience of nature.

Not only in humans plants too get the cancer. Interesting topic

A well-known example is Crown Gall Disease, caused by the bacterium Agrobacterium tumefaciens, which inserts part of its DNA into the plant’s genome and causes uncontrolled cell growth.

This really made me think deeply… If plants can grow and survive with abnormal cells without letting them spread, maybe nature already has the answers we’re searching for.
Instead of always fighting cancer with force, what if we learned to manage and control it like plants do calmly, wisely, and in harmony? There’s so much silent strength in nature, maybe it’s time we started listening.

I have learnt in depth about cancer especially relating with plants

I think plants has the answer to our problem. Same like the plant if you can find a solution to live with cancer instead of fighting with it . It will be a game changer. It is so fascinating how each day we learn different things from the nature

This i new for me i have not heard before plants gets tumor but does not undergo metastasis

Interesting information. If researcher can identify that how plant is able to inhibit the metastasis then it will be very huge achievement and can help in treating the human cancer.
