Brain implants - A new frontier in therapeutics

While doing a practice school project on review article of brain implants I have learned about emerging therapies, explored medical devices and learned about pharmacotheary .

With a rapid evolution in neurotechnology brain implants has become a promising approch for management of neurological disorder. Brain implants function by altering the neuronal signal through electrical stimulation and signal interpretation in which electrodes deliver controlled electrical pulses to specific brain nuclei. It decodes the neuronal signals and translates them into command for external devices.

Types of Brain implants:-

  • Deep brain stimulation
  • Brain computer interface
  • Neurolink implants

Clinical Application -

  • Parkinson’s disease: DBS improves motor symptoms such as tremors and rigidity.

  • Epilepsy: Implants help reduce seizure frequency by modulating abnormal brain activity.

  • Depression: Emerging evidence suggests benefits in treatment-resistant cases.

  • Chronic pain: Neuromodulation offers an alternative to long-term analgesic use.

Pharmacotheary plays a crucial role in integration of brain implants by showing promising approach and continuous research for future.

Therapies like Deep Brain Stimulation show how advanced technology can help manage neurological disorders.

Combining this with holistic care like Ayurveda can support better overall patient outcomes.

Innovative!!! Other is ‘Temple’ a wearable device that helps with managing blood flow to the brain, slows down aging, tracks your body functions. I think still research is going on for this device.
