I started my professional journey as an Educator. Stepping in to the teaching world was easy but becoming better at the job everyday wasn’t an easy task, until I realized what are the key changes that needs to be made within myself and I believe it applies to almost all jobs.
Some of the key factors that can make you better at your job apart from the subject expertise are:
A) Communication Skills: This is the foremost important quality that everyone needs to master. Clear communication paired with empathy puts us in a safe spot with our audience and colleagues.
B) Content Simplification: No one is interested in listening to complicated topics and spend time in breaking it down. Presenting the information in ‘easily digestible chunks’ helps our audience to stay interested in the content even for long hours.
C) Emotional Intelligence: Not everyone is your friend, there will be multiple disagreements and problems. We need to learn to not take it personally and resolve issues in a pacific way.
D) Organization Skills: In the professional world, what isn’t documented hasn’t happened. Moreover, we cannot remember the exact date and time of certain events, so it is always important to document every small detail on a daily basis.
E) Continuous Learning: None of the fields remain stagnant, it is constantly evolving, so should we. It’ll open us a world full of possibilities and expertise.
What are some of the qualities that you learned during your professional journey?
