In China, a teenage girl’s attempt to look perfect for her birthday took a dangerous turn when an extreme crash diet led to a severe drop in potassium levels, causing a critical health emergency. This case highlights the serious risks of unhealthy dieting and the growing pressure of beauty ideals on young minds.
She crash diet to look perfect for her birthday led to a life-threatening showing how dangerous beauty pressures can be. Health should never be compromised for appearance.
No one should have to risk their health to feel beautiful. Instead of promoting outer appearance, we need to focus more on self-love, body positivity, and educating teens on healthy habits.
Health should never be sacrificed for appearance "true beauty comes from being confident, healthy, and happy in your own skin."
There is nothing wrong with wanting to look good , but risking your health for beauty is not good idea .Real beauty comes from accepting yourself as you are . Health should be your first Priority
Teens often feel pressured to look “perfect” because of what they see on social media or around them. Some people also tend to judge others based on their appearance, and that makes teens believe they have to look a certain way using heavy cosmetics or following risky diets just to be accepted. But crash dieting can seriously harm the body, especially when it’s still growing. They don’t always think about the long-term effects on their health. We need more awareness, support, and honest conversations around body image and healthy habits.
The desire to look beautiful by any gender is not any wrong decision but the way we proceed to look beautiful matters especially on special days. I wish she wasn’t followed that diet so that atleast she was being happy
The height that self hatred is going these days is just soo sad to see…
“Comparison is the thief of joy”
Is really true these days and it fits perfectly with the life of teenagers
Seeing everyone smiling, looking perfect and doing great things on social media apps like Facebook instagram, Snapchat etc.
Is just making feel more miserable I think people need to go through their own life without comparing and be happy on they are and what they achieve…
You can’t walk straight when you look somewhere else !
Real beauty comes from loving yourself. Its okay to change yourself a little, be a little more fit. But this crash diet culture is really doing harms, rather than goods. The weight should be shed by doing proper workouts, and having a proper diet. Taking short-cuts can cut short the life.
This is common in today’s generation, where just for perfect body people are following strict diet and doing some other stuff , which lead to dysfunction of their body
Insecurity from chasing unattainable beauty standards is a sad waste of ones’s youth but is almost unavoidable in impressionable boys and girls. Conforming to standards is a way of seeking acceptance and approval from society, but if conformity comes at the cost of your well-being, it is never worth it.
it highlights the extreme pressures teens face to conform to beauty standards, showing how the desire to look a certain way can lead to dangerous health choices. It also raises awareness about the consequences of crash dieting and the urgent need for better education around body image and nutrition.
Basically, a failure to understand the basic system. Teens and also for those who are aiming to loose weight without proper supervision or knowledge should understand about the body and it’s primary function. Many people skip carbohydrates completely, but what happens without carbs? Will be body be able to perform it’s regular function? This failure to understand the key concepts in the main reason behind the crash of this teenage girl.
With the rise of ever changing trends and escalating beauty standards, our generation is constantly under pressure to meet these. In the pursuit of perfection, many are pushing themselves beyond their physical and mental limits.
Real beauty is accepting yourself as you are. Losing weight is not a problem but it should be controlled in a manner so that it can not affect the health and body metabolism. By following proper diet and nutrition the skin gets brighter and smoother. With the help of beauty product we can look better but we have to be careful about health.
The societal notion of beauty standards greatly influences one’s self perception and behaviour. The judgements that arises if one doesn’t fit into these beauty standards are really appalling. This is why majority, especially teens goes behind the viral or trending beauty tips and diet plans unquestioningly. Proper awareness and education on these fad diet plans and its consequences must be promoted, particularly to school students and teenagers. It is always better to accept yourself for who you are and what you are capable of, rather than believing these so called beauty standards.
This reminded me of a heartbreaking incident in Kerala, where an 18-year-old girl sadly lost her life after surviving on just water for 6 months. Influenced by extreme weight-loss diets she found online, she was later diagnosed with anorexia. By the time she was admitted to the ICU, she weighed only 24 kg. Despite being put on ventilator support, her condition did not improve. It is deeply worrying how dangerous beauty pressures and online diet trends can be!
“She just wanted to feel beautiful on her birthday. But at what cost?”
It’s heartbreaking how beauty today is measured in numbers—on a scale, on a dress tag, on social media.
A 16-year-old shouldn’t be in a hospital bed because she wanted to feel accepted.
This isn’t just about one girl in China.
It’s about every teen who looks in the mirror and thinks “Not enough.”
We need to talk more. Listen more. And remind them:
Your worth was never meant to be weighed.
