Are Lectures necessary in 3rd and 4th year of MBBS?

What is the relevance of third and final year lectures in MBBS apart from clinical postings?

I guess clinically relevant lectures should be taken but not the theory lectures that are outdated and can be studied by students because most of the student don’t attend lectures which are not clinically relevant and useful .

Yes! Lectures help us make good notes if the teacher is good.

Lectures during 3rd and 4th year act as bridges between theoretical knowledge and clinical exposure. While self-study is important, a well-delivered lecture—especially one tied to real cases

But other than postings lectures in college just comprises of ppt based reading or presenting a topic by students which the students create by ai and just come and read as professors.:face_exhaling:

For me i consider theory lectures are equally important along with postings as it makes ur familiar with the concepts and get us oriented with the topic before we read feom textbook.

**infact we dont read the whole textbook and tend to skip less important topics which we can learn during our theory lectures **

and by theory lectures i mean not just lectures by professors but presentatios by students followed byquick quiz session which we had throughout the year and was kinda interesting

At the end it all depends on the students perspective if they feel lectures to be boring they tend to sleep if they find interesting, learning something new it would definitely be beneficial

I think there is no time for lectures in 3rd and 4th year in between posting and classes…yes you can take lectures for a complex topic and where you need otherwise self study with books is must and help in learning good concepts.

In 3rd year nearly all the departments are giving seminars to us instead of them taking lectures.
Actually, it’s for the sake of attendence.
After all it’s a break for taking a nap after the clinical postings.
Lectures are needed for knowing the etiology, pathophysiology of diseases.
In clinical postings, it’s symptoms, signs, clinical exposures must be taken.

Third and final year MBBS lectures deepen theoretical understanding, integrate clinical knowledge, aid in exam preparation, and build diagnostic reasoning—crucial for internships, NEET PG, and confident patient management.

I believe lectures in third and final year are essential in order to build a strong theoretical base. It helps prime your brain to the topics and understand case during clinical postings. Both are equally important and go hand-in-hand.
