Antibiotics from the Pharmacy: A Quiet Risk We Often Ignore

Fever, cough, or body ache and instead of a doctor, many people directly approach a pharmacy for antibiotics. It feels quick and convenient, but it often skips the most important step: proper diagnosis.

Most common illnesses like viral fever do not require antibiotics, yet they are frequently taken without prescription. This not only fails to treat the illness but also contributes to antibiotic resistance, making future infections harder to cure.

Pharmacists play an important role in healthcare, but they are not meant to replace physicians in diagnosing conditions. Without medical evaluation, there is always a risk of taking the wrong drug, wrong dose, or unnecessary antibiotics.

Over time, this habit can turn simple infections into harder-to-treat problems for everyone.

Antibiotics are not general fever medicines they are targeted drugs that need proper medical guidance.

Before reaching for antibiotics at a pharmacy, the safer first step is still a consultation with a doctor.

How many of your relatives or known friends still does this?

I have seen this whenever I have gone to the pharmacy near me - people will be consulting the pharmacist and getting the medicines. More awareness should be created about antibiotic resistance.
