AI chatbot- helpful or dangerous in healthcare?

AI chatbots are digital assistants, these are software tools that use AI and natural language processing to stimulate human conversation.
In this Artificial intelligence world, even healthcare is driven by it.
AI chatbots have potential to enhance healthcare systems in many ways.

  • It is very quick to answer

  • Anytime available

  • Also booking appointments becomes easy

  • Can determine emergency symptoms to help to give alert to patients

  • Can give personalized care guidance

  • Can track symptoms

  • Can give reminders for medicines

  • Can do administrative work

  • Save patient data, helps in writing discharge summary, admission notes etc.

But it comes with its own risks like:

  • Misinformation

  • Lack of proper response

  • It lacks emotions to understand emotional side of patients

  • Data privacy issues

  • Problems in answering for mental disorders

  • Can be bias depending on the data it has

  • People get their answers on health so they avoid visiting doctors

Use chatbots for general guidance, quick queries, and support. But for diagnosis, treatment decisions, or persistent symptoms, always consult a doctor.

Can we rely on these chatbots for our health assistance or should we consult a doctor?

Relying solely on Chatbots is not advisable in my opinion. A combination of both will always be more effective.

AI chatbots are useful for quick guidance, reminders, and basic health information, but they cannot replace clinical examination and human judgement. For diagnosis, treatment, or serious symptoms, consulting a doctor is always important.
