AI Can Read Your Thoughts? A Medical Breakthrough

Recent developments in Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) are on track to make this feasible. Researchers have been able to convert the internal monologue (the voice inside our head) into written text using 74% accuracy by inspecting electrical signals derived from the Motor cortex.

This technology is likely to not only provide an opportunity for people with paralysis or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) to communicate, but will allow them to have some degree of independence, identity and social interaction.

What exactly does the study do?
The patients with the sufferings of paralysis and Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis were selected for the study whose communication is severely impaired. They captured the brain activity associated with imagined speech by implanting electrodes and analyzing signals from the motor cortex, the same signals is produced from the cortex while you are silently taking. By advancing AI models real time text were decoded by these signals with the thousands of words.

Reason For Major Medical breakthrough

  • It helps to communicate with the patients mental wellbeing.
  • It strengthens interactions between the patients and the doctors.
  • Systems will operate using intentional mental commands only.
  • Any unintended inner speech will remain private and will not be detected.
  • Users will be in complete control over how and when to share their data.

Therefore, in neurotechnology, consent can no longer be an afterthought—shown in design next to the architecture itself.

The new advancements in both innovation and social responsibility are as follows:

Provide a voice for people who otherwise do not have one.
Push the boundaries of neuroscience and artificial intelligence (AI).
Challenge traditional ideas regarding individual privacy and what it means to be human.

Would you feel comfortable if the technology will read your thoughts?

This is an intriguing study. It would be beneficial for patients suffering from paralysis and who are non-verbal. Utilizing AI for the betterment of people should always be encouraged.

Voice to the voiceless”—that will be the powerful part of this breakthrough.

That is going to be a milestone for AI in patient management.

This is great news for the dumb n disabled. It could be intimidating for the rest of us if it isn’t handled carefully.
