Dental Aligners are medical devices that should be sold like any other medical product, not cosmetically like face creams. Many commercial brands now send ill-trained technicians to clients’ homes to take impressions & make manual fittings, bypassing the clinical diagnosis, cannot X-ray and lack professional level competence necessary for the treatment. The clients end up with malocclusion of bites, gum infections, failed cases and irreversible harm.
Therapy with aligners is not some form of DIY dentistry. It is a highly controlled and dynamic treatment course which requires accuracy, patient follow-ups and medical responsibility.
Let me be very clear:
Malocclusion can never be fixed through mobile apps or a delivery executive. It is an Orthodontist who has the knowledge of occlusion, bone health and facial harmony, who fixes it.
Patients : If you feel that aligners are something that you want, or is necessary for you, the, a consultation should always be sought with the MDS Orthodontist, & not a company.
Students/Professionals : Make yourself conscious of the legal, ethical and clinical ramifications of the untended treatment. We owe it to our profession & to the patients to fight for safe, science-based dental care and not for some cheap marketing gimmicks!
