When you think of someone’s _core,_ you picture six-pack abs. Medically and functionally, your core is a support system that affects nearly every movement your body makes. Strengthening it goes a long way in stability, longevity and injury prevention.

The **muscles of the core** are a protection for your spine and pelvis. These include:

- Transverse abdominus
- internal and external obliques
- rectus abdominus
- multifidus
- pelvic floor muscles
- diaphragm
- gluteal muscles

**Why a strong core is essential:**

1. spinal stability and posture
2. balance and coordination
3. Improved breathing
4. efficient movement
5. less injury

**How to strengthen your core safely:**

you don’t need a gym to start with, just consistency and control. here are some beginner friendly exercises which we can all look up on youtube:

- dead-bug
- bird-dog
- glute bridges
- side planks and regular planks
- marching in place by carrying a weight

**Signs your core is getting stronger:**

- fewer backaches
- better posture through out the day
- improved balance while walking
- easier transition from sitting on the floor to standing

Invest in your core for your over all well being. It is the foundation for long term musculoskeletal strength.

Are we intentionally setting aside time everyday for our over all well being?
