About a quarter of people sneeze when they look at bright light, especially sunlight. This is called the **photic sneeze reflex**. The exact mechanism is not fully understood, but the most accepted theory is that the optic nerve (which carries light signals) and the trigeminal nerve (which controls sneezing) are close in the brainstem. In some people, the bright light signal “crosses over” and accidentally stimulates the sneeze reflex. It is harmless, genetic, and runs in families. It does not mean anything is wrong with your eyes or sinuses. It is simply a quirky wiring pattern in your nervous system that makes bright light feel like “something is in your nose,” even when it is not. This is an interesting topic This **leading theory** involves cross-activation between the optic and trigeminal nerve pathways in the brainstem, your brain misreads photons as nasal irritation. **Pilots** are actually **screened** for this because a sneeze during takeoff or landing can be dangerous. ---

Never thought about it but it produces a relaxing effect near the facial nerves post sneezing. ---
