HBIG here is for passive immunoprophylaxis against hepatitis B given within 12 hours of birth, alongside the hepatitis B vaccine at a separate site, for babies of HBsAg-positive mothers. Side effects are generally mild like local pain/swelling at the injection site, occasionally low-grade fever. Anaphylaxis is very rare. The respiratory distress sounds unrelated unless the mother’s status points otherwise.
