Why laxatives are not safe for weight loss? A medicine misused by some people!

People misuse laxatives like Dulcolax thinking it helps in weight loss.but the truth is , it only removes water and waste, not body fat.

Here are some points why this practice is common despite being ineffective:

The Myth: People sometimes believe laxatives can rush the food out of the body before calories can be absorbed.

The Reality: Laxatives act on the large intestine, and most calories and nutrients are absorbed earlier in the small intestine.

Temporary Water Loss: Any weight loss seen on the scale is simply water and electrolytes, not fat, which is harmful for our body.

Widespread Use: Despite the risks, studies show approximately 5% of adults, and up to 15-62% of people with eating disorders, are using laxatives for weight control.

Dangerous Side Effects: Laxative misuse can lead to extreme dehydration, electrolyte imbalances, chronic constipation, dependency, and, in severe cases, intestinal weakness.

Frequent misuse can damage the intestines, cause dehydration, weakness, electrolyte imbalance, and even make the body dependent on laxatives to function normally.

What starts as " weight loss" can slowly turn into a dangerous condition affecting both physical and mental health.

A smaller number on the scale is not always a healthier body.

So why is society still promoting unhealthy shortcuts more than healthy habits?
