Why heart diseases are very common in people working in the corporate?

I have read that people who have a sitting job, leading to a sedentary lifestyle and less movement, are at higher risk for heart disease. What is the reason behind this? We will know through today’s post.

Why are corporate workers at higher risk for heart disease?

If your lifestyle includes sitting for longer durations for work, less movement, not focusing on diet, and smoking, then it increases your risk of getting heart disease.

What happens when you sit for a longer duration at one place for work?

Corporate jobs commonly involve work arrangement of sitting in one place for the whole day. But it can increase the risk of hypertension (increased blood pressure) and increased cholesterol; along with that, it can also lead to blood clot formation in the heart, resulting in stroke or heart attack. Sitting in one place for more than 4 hours is not good for heart health; it is also known as ‘sitting disease,’ in which this kind of lifestyle puts strain on the heart.

How to keep your heart healthy if you are a corporate employee?

  • Avoid eating junk food; focus on keeping your diet healthy.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Try incorporating workouts into your daily routine.
  • Take small breaks to stretch a bit and walk around the office to avoid sitting in one place for long.
  • Do meditation and breathing exercises, have hobbies outside work, and spend time with people close to you to manage stress.
  • Do regular health checkups.

What are the other strategies can we include to keep our hearts healthy while working in the corporate world?

Long sitting hours have adverse effects on health. Sitting for more than 8 hours slows your blood flow and reduce your body’s ability to process blood sugar level.

There should be a balance between your profession and health, You have to prioritise your health as well.

The corporate world is the one that thrives on constant stress. Some smoke to manage the stress; however, chronic smoking also takes a toll on heart health in the long term.

I think that while working in the corporate world, even small changes like taking the stairs, walking during calls, or taking active breaks during a busy workday can also help to maintain a healthy heart.

Must be the stress

Dedicating 1hour daily to your health is really important. Time can be decided according to one’s own liking. But making it a task like other tasks we plan for the day can help. And the workout need not be any specific activity it can be anything from yoga to dance.

The heart pumps blood down the legs but gravity makes it difficult to to push that blood back up during blood circulation. The calf muscle plays a major role in pumping this blood and push upwards. Due to long hours of sitting, the calf muscle cannot contract and relax at its full capacity. Being physically active helps to maintain calf health and thus heart health as well.

Yes it is very true that sitting for long hour affects our heat health. So for avoiding this we should to adapt some habits like after parking using stairs, having a small bottle for water so that we can go to refill it more time and it will decrease our sitting time, healthy snacking, positive environment, less caffeine these are some habits which can help in supporting our heart health.
