Flu season is approaching now and thus many people are going to be affected like every year by the seaosonal flu outbreak . For the healthy adults it’s just a rough week in bed but children and older adults or people with chronic condition like diabetes, heart disease or a lung condition flu is more likely to lead to complications like pneumonia or a hospital stay. But why do we need to take a new shot of vaccine ? Why only one shot is not enough? Influenza is caused by two viruses Influenza A includes H1N1 and H3N2 viruses and Influenza B . This viruses builds up small changes in it’s genetic code thus mutating and makes it unrecognizable for your immune system . This is the reason why Flu vaccine changes every year. **So how the Vaccine works ?** World Health Organization brings together a panel of experts to look at all this data and decide which versions of the virus that year’s vaccine should target .The flu vaccine doesn’t contain the live virus thus it cannot cause flu instead a small , harmless piece of the virus’s outer coat is taken . After being injected the immune system starts to recognize the newly mutated virus strain and builds immunity. Person might feel mild soreness, tiredness followed by a slight fever a day after ,this our immune system adapting to the new strain. Very informative post! Influenza viruses constantly evolve, which is why seasonal flu vaccines are updated to better match the circulating strains. The clear explanation of how vaccination prepares our immune system is especially helpful. ---

Hospitals beds are occupied with patients who have influenza. As a result the healthcare staff also gets affected with influenza. Proper measures for prevention are required and flu vaccines can certainly help!
