Beyond the knowledge of textbooks and clinical skills, sometimes its about how you deliver bad news to the patients family, how to calm someone while they have a panic attack or doing conflict management.

For me, it should be communication and empathy. Communication between doctor and patient is very necessary. Discussing each and every step of treatment needs good communication between them. Empathy help doctor to contact with their patients and let them understand what patient feels.

I think empathy should be the skill evey doctor should possess. Being a doctor is not just about treating the patients with medicines or drugs, it is also about being kind and considerate towards them, understanding their concerns and fears, being compassionate to them and in a way providing a healing atmosphere for both their mental and physical health.
