Medical equipment such as catheters, ventilators and implants save many lives- however, they also provide surfaces on which bacteria can grow.

Bacteria attach to create biofilms which are more difficult to get rid of. It results in device-related infections, which prevail in intensive care units.

These infections are monitored closely since they are likely to cause bloodstream infections and lengthy hospitalization. Prevention includes careful insertion techniques, monitoring and removal in case of possibility.

It is a medical paradox of the modern times: the very tools that help to save lives can also be used as the means of infection.

Life-saving devices like catheters and ventilators can also become a place for bacteria to grow. These bacteria form biofilms, making infections harder to treat, especially in ICU patients. That’s why proper use, hygiene, and timely removal of devices are very important.

This is a major risk that’s why aseptic insertion of these devices, regular monitoring, and timely removal should be enforced strictly in hospitals.

Doctors should make sure that sterilization of all such products are done before each procedure. SOP of OT or ICU must be strictly looked in to , to avoid such complications

Yes. Thats true. They can become the source of infection. There is different department now in hospitals taking care of this.

As a means of addressing these problems, now mandatory and improvised sterilization is being carried across all hospitals to ensure that these type of spreading of disease is prevented.
