A 60 years old women with metastatic ovarian cancer, was admitted in a palliative care unit with severe pain, breathlessness and profound level of emotional distress. Her prognosis was poor, and medical team anticipated rapid deterioration. Despite optimal pain management, she expressed despair, fear of dying and disconnection from the believe system.

Patient is coming from deeply spiritual background but lost her faith practices after her illness diagnosis. She often said “God has abandoned me” and refused to visit hospital chaplains or getting spiritual counselling services. However, her daughter, hold her faith hopeful and frequently prayed at her bedside.

One evening, during a particularly difficult episode of pain and anxiety, Her daughter invited her long time family priest to visit something but she initially resisted. Reluctantly, she agreed and said ‘just for your sake.’ The priest sat quietly beside her, speaking softly about forgiveness, acceptance, and the idea that peace can arrive even when the body cannot be cured. He guided Asha in a brief prayer and gentle chanting.

Over the next 24 hours, the medical team observed, including her daughter, an unexpected shift. She said, i feel so better, there are lightness in my body and sense of relief, “The pain still there, but something inside me feel lifted like i am not alone anymore”. Her anxiety reduced dramatically, and began to eat her meal peacefully. while her physical decline continued over the next week, her psychological suffering had eased. Family and medical team noticed calmness that seemed disproportionate to her medical condition.

**Role of Faith in the Healing Process:**

- A renewed sense of meaning
- Relief from spiritual distress
- Emotional reconnection with her family
- Acceptance of mortality
- A deep, subjective experience of comfort beyond clinical measures

Her case illustrates how spiritual healing - though not medically ‘curative’ - it can transform the end-of-life journey.

This case shows how healing goes beyond medicine. Reconnecting with her faith gave her emotional relief, peace, and strength in her final days. It’s a reminder that spiritual support can be as powerful as clinical care in Palliative Care Unit.

Beliefs system should always be best. Being faithful is very important specially in times of severe illness. We often hear what we think we become. Having a positive beleive helps us in thinking postive which leads to optimism. Doctors often says you never save somebody who doesn’t have the hope to live.

What a heartwarming tale. 🙏✨ It demonstrates the potency of spiritual healing, particularly when medical intervention is exhausted. No amount of medication could give her the solace, connection, and emotional calm that even a brief moment of restored faith could. 🌼💛
Her journey reminds us that palliative care isn’t just physical—it’s spiritual, relational, and human.
Have you witnessed moments where faith or hope created unexpected healing? 💬🕊
