The Feeling Of Not Being "Enough" as a Student

As a student, I have often felt that my efforts are not “enough” to make a meaningful impact on my academic and personal growth. This feeling often stems from the competitive environment surrounding academics and the professional world.

But what do we really classify as “enough”? This is a question that has crossed my mind many times.

Does “enough” mean continuous effort?
Does “enough” mean being a perfectionist in every field?
Does “enough” mean no failures?

This habit of constantly comparing and ranking our efforts destroys our self-esteem. We often don’t realise how deeply it affects our state of mind and how easily it can spiral out of control. Being overwhelmed as a student is understandable, but many don’t realise that success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the small, consistent steps we take towards our future that make a huge difference.

Even though we might feel like we aren’t putting in enough effort, it is important not to compare ourselves with others and to focus on our own journey, because that’s what matters the most. Our efforts are not about constant productivity, perfection, or the absence of failure. They are defined by growth and the willingness to improve despite setbacks.

“Being enough isn’t about perfection; it’s about believing in ourselves and growing at our own pace.”

Have you ever felt like you’re not enough? How did you cope with it?
