Japan has always amused us with its unmatched inventions, not only in electronics but also in health care. It also has one of the lowest adult obesity rates. Japan has introduced a unique category of foods known as ‘Functional Beverages’. These drinks help both in refreshment and also support health. Their latest invention in this category is **Suntory Tokusui – water that helps weight loss.** #### How does Tokusui work? **Tokusui looks and tastes almost like ordinary water** , unlike sugary diet drinks or energy beverages. It **contains a special ingredient called HMPA** (3-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)propionic acid), a compound derived from fermented rice bran. This ingredient may **support fat metabolism and also helps the body process stored visceral fat** (the deep abdominal fat linked to obesity and metabolic diseases). I hadn’t heard about this earlier but I think this product can be a great aid for Indians in weight management as obesity is one of the major causes of metabolic syndromes like Hypertension and Diabetes. Along with lifestyle changes and medications, functional water is a healthy addition to diet. ---

If it’s treated only as a drink that supports good health, it can prove to be really beneficial for humans all over the world. But if we start treating it as a substitute for weight loss treatments. It will lose it’s scientific value ---

This is really interesting! I had never heard of functional beverages like Tokusui before. The functional water is a wonderful way to support healthy metabolism. The fermented rice water has important bacteria that supports Good metabolism. It is an important research and may be in future it could be a wonderful weight loss recipe. ---

Hey, really interesting read! Honestly, I had not come across this topic. I did a bit of a PubMed search on it thanks to your post. There are quite some studies on functional water fused with electrolytes and other ingredients that increase antioxidant potential and decrease fat mass. ---
