Sedentary lifestyle and Active lifestyle

A sedentary lifestyle, characterized by long period of sitting or lying down with minimal energy expenditure (<1.5METs). Significantly increases the risk of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart diseases and obesity. Conversely,an active lifestyle incorporates regular physical activity. Improving cardiovascular health,weight management and mental health.

Sedentary lifestyle (low energy expenditure)

  • Generally known as spending more than 6 hours a day sitting, reclining or lying down.
  • Health health risk : increased risk of premature death, heart diseases,high blood pressure, depression and anxiety.
  • Physical effect : Muscle loss poor blood circulation and metabolic-issue
  • Common causes : desk jobs, excessive screen time and limited leisure-time activity.

Active lifestyle (high energy expenditure)

  • Regular engaging in physical activity, typically 30+minutes of daily, intentional exercise.
  • Health benefits: better weight management, increased muscle/bone strength, improved sleep and enhanced mood.
  • Example: Walking, running, cycling , dancing or gardening.
  • Tips for adults: ar least 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week should be done.

An active individual burn significantly more calories (>470-580) daily compared to sedentary individuals also if your work is more sedentary you should take short breaks in between and strech a bit . To make your body feel relaxed.

Conclusion: Sedentary lifestyle and Active lifestyle has many differences but even if working for long hours. Can actually be hectic for an individual as well as active lifestyle can also be hectic but the most important thing is to manage the work accordingly and have a active lifestyle. For exam the farmer working on the field he has a active lifestyle but the employee working in office by sitting only he has a sedentary lifestyle. Both are at the same page working hard but the person working on field has good health and the employee sitting on chair and work has health issues.
