Red Bull, PepsiCo Among Brands Facing FSSAI Action Over Misleading Claims

India’s food safety regulator, FSSAI, has issued notices to six major beverage brands—including Red Bull, PepsiCo, Monster, Sting, Campa, and Hell—over the use of the term “energy drink” and health-related claims on their products. According to the regulator, no official standard currently exists for products marketed as “energy drinks,” and food products are not permitted to carry therapeutic or functional claims such as boosting energy, improving focus, or relieving general weakness.

The move reflects growing regulatory scrutiny of food labeling, advertising practices, and consumer protection, raising important questions about how health-related claims should be communicated to the public.
