Panchakarma, which means **“five actions”** , is a group of Ayurvedic cleansing and rejuvenation procedures designed to remove accumulated toxins (_Ama_, according to Ayurvedic principles) and restore balance in the body. Depending on the individual’s health condition and constitution, it may include therapies such as:

- Vamana (therapeutic emesis)
- Virechana (therapeutic purgation)
- Basti (medicated enema)
- Nasya (nasal therapy)
- Raktamokshana (bloodletting, practiced selectively)

These therapies are performed under the guidance of trained Ayurvedic practitioners after proper evaluation.

**Myth:** Panchakarma is just a relaxing massage.

**Fact:** It is a structured Ayurvedic therapy that includes specific procedures performed under trained supervision.

**Myth:** Everyone should undergo Panchakarma.

**Fact:** It is not suitable for everyone. The treatment depends on an individual’s health condition and body constitution.

**Myth:** Panchakarma cures every disease.

**Fact:** It may support health in certain conditions, but it should not replace evidence-based medical treatment when needed.

**Conclusion**
Panchakarma has been practiced in Ayurveda for centuries, but like any healthcare approach, it should be understood with the right knowledge rather than common misconceptions. A balanced view helps patients make safer and more informed choices.

**Interns, do you think traditional therapies should always be combined with scientific research to improve patient confidence and safety?**

Definitely traditional therapies should be combined with scientific research so that people will have proper evidence about the therapy and this will help to build more trust in traditional therapies.

Absolutely, yes! As our environment changes and people evolve, I believe traditional therapies should definitely be combined with science. This could be a huge advantage for how we use them in clinics.

Yes, traditional therapies should also be practiced with evidence based results. Many ayurvedic cleansing therapies and techniques have been used for long time and show great amount of evidence from such procedures. But surely should be done under experts guidance.

The fact that ayurvedic treatments can bring results, is a clear indication that the science behind it is legit.

With proper research we may be able to increase the therapeutic effect even more
