# NExT exam: all about it

What is NExT exam? When is it taken? When was this introduced? Is a medical student mandated to take this test?

The NExT (National Exit Test) is a licensing and PG entrance exam for MBBS students in India. It’s meant to replace NEET PG and the FMGE. Introduced under the NMC Act 2019, it’s mandatory for medical graduates to practice and pursue postgraduation. Implementation is expected soon.

- **NExT** is a unified exam replacing final MBBS, licensure, NEET-PG, and FMGE.
- It consists of **Step 1 (theory)** and **Step 2 (clinical/practical)**.
- First exam scheduled for **August 2025**.
- **Mandatory** for all Indian and foreign medical graduates.

The National Exit Test (NExT) is a medical licensing exam in India that assesses clinical skills, knowledge, and competencies.

Introduced in 2020, it’s mandatory for medical graduates to pass NExT to practice medicine, ensuring they meet national standards and providing quality healthcare.

NExT standardizes medical education, protecting public health and safety.
