**Did you know that newborn babies do not feel cold the same way adults do?** 🍼 They are born with a special waxy, oil-like coating on their skin called **vernix caseosa.** This natural coating forms in the womb and acts like a built-in moisturizer and heat-locking shield. It also has antibacterial properties and helps babies adjust better to the outside world after birth. Had you ever heard of this before? In addition to locking in warmth and moisture, I think vernix also plays a very important role in the protection of a baby’s skin from the amniotic fluid, which would otherwise cause it to wrinkle or break down. It has also been seen that vernix supports wound healing and skin development after birth. ---

Yes, I’ve read about vernix caseosa before — it’s actually quite fascinating! Nature really does take care of babies in amazing ways.
