# MBBS + BAMS Course: Good or Bad?

The govt of India has just announced that it will start a combined MBBS + BAMS course with first such course to be started at JIPMER, Puducherry.
What is your take on this decision?

My take is:
Myxopathy will lead to more harm to Ayurveda - this is my take on this issue.
What a classical stupidity!! This kind of “Khichri medicine” is not going to do any good to public as well as those who want to resurrect Ayuveda.
The need is to scrutinize and analyze Ayurveda on modern scientific parameters. In essence, we need to update Ayurveda and for that R & D is required.

Honestly, I’m a bit conflicted. On one hand, integrating modern and traditional systems could promote a more holistic approach to healthcare. But on the other, both MBBS and BAMS are already intense on their own—won’t combining them overburden students? Curious to see how this plays out at JIPMER.

The combined MBBS + BAMS course could be beneficial in promoting holistic patient care and research, but concerns about compromising medical education quality and potential opposition from medical associations need consideration.
Its success depends on the curriculum and implementation.

I feel this tie up will only do harm to both the fields because both of them are very different in nature .ayurveda works on vayu , pitta n kaph while allopathy is works in a totally different way. Idk how they will integrate these two essences .

Both are different yet similar
Both are very vast and completing it in 5.5 years is crazy
Ayurveda is an already established science , it needs to be proved through modern medical lens so that explanation to today’s generation is well understood
And anyhow as a BAMS graduate I can proudly say that we learn modern as well as ayurvedic aspects of the subjects
But just upto understanding ayurvedic concepts through it not deeply as a mbbs
Correlating and studying it is what our syllabus has been throughout years
Jipmers syllabus is just adding more of modern medical science to it and giving the tag of MBBS too with BAMS

The best solution will not be to introduce a combined MBBS + BAMS course.The two medical systems also possess different philosophies, and they need special extended training.Combining them may weaken their quality and instead lead to uncertainty, as opposed to productive healthcare delivery.

I think its really hard to cover all the aspects in depth. BAMS and MBBS have different philosophies, different concepts different theory, and training. I think its hard to cover this all in 5 years.

I think it would be great but also there will be another option. From my point of view the option will be PG in Ayurved Medicine/ Homeopathic medicine (MD Med. Ayu./ MD. Med. Hom) after the MBBS curriculum.
