How much sugar is exactly too much sugar?

Baba Ramdev’s “Sharbat Jihad” controversy has sparked debate on the sugar content of various products of daily use.

WHO recommends that sugar intake in our daily life should not be more than 10% that’s equal to 50 g of sugar per day.

The American Heart Association recommends that men should consume no more than 36 grams (9 teaspoons) of added sugar per day, and women should consume no more than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day. These recommendations apply to added sugars, not the naturally occurring sugars found in fruits, vegetables, and grains.

This is something that a lot of people think about. It really depends on factors like age, activity level, and overall diet, but generally, I’ve heard that staying within the recommended daily limit around 25 grams for women and 36 grams for men is a good guideline. It’s surprising how quickly it adds up.

ICMR recommends limiting added sugar intake to 20–25 grams per day for an average adult.

And yes, daily sugar consumption recommendations do vary based on several factors such as age, sex, BMR, various health conditions, physical activity, total calorie intake etc.

I completely refrain from consuming added sugars.

We already get so much hidden sugar from our normal food, it’s more than enough.

With so much awareness available today, it’s up to individuals to make healthier choices for themselves.

Any unwanted amount of sugar for daily sustenance is excess sugar. It doesnt give you any advantage.
