We often talk about how smartphones have impacted our lives. Excessive use of smartphones has been linked to poor sleep, less attention, and mental health issues. But something that’s often overlooked is whether our phones are actually clean.
Have you ever wondered if your smartphone could carry microorganisms?
We interact with our phones countless times a day. But do we stop to clean them?
Research suggests that the smartphone surfaces may act as a harbour for some microorganisms, and some microorganisms may even survive on the surface of smartphones due to factors like sweat, food particles, or skin cell debris.
Unlike our hands, we can’t simply wash our smartphones with water. But we can be aware that phones may also contribute to the transfer of microorganisms.
Cleaning the smartphones we use on a regular basis is also a good habit we could incorporate.
If phones are part of our everyday life, then smartphone hygiene should be, too.
When was the last time you cleaned your smartphone? What are your thoughts on smartphones harbouring microorganisms?
