I used to think about this in my childhood ![]()
Thanks for sharing
In childhood i have got same doubt and i thought they won’t get thirsty even if they get however they will drink water
Wow,I never knew this, such a cool fact about how fish survive!
“Such an interesting post! As a pharmacy student, learning about osmoregulation in fish made me think how their physiology is naturally adapted to the environment. Saltwater fish drinking seawater to balance fluids and freshwater fish excreting water to avoid dilution — it’s like nature’s version of fluid-electrolyte balance!”
Interesting to know, never heard about this
Intresting topic!
Interesting @Neha87
Never knew that seawater fish are thirstier than freshwater fish, and I just learned about osmosis. Thanks for sharing, I learned something new today!
Very interesting and informative.
Thanks for sharing. I used to always wonder as a child about these questions.
I never thought of fish that way! It’s interesting how saltwater fish drink a lot to stay hydrated, while freshwater fish have to constantly get rid of water. Nature has its own smart ways of balance!
As for the types—Goldfish are freshwater, and Clownfish are saltwater, right?
It actually got me thinking! From a biology perspective, freshwater and saltwater fish handle water very differently. Freshwater fish don’t drink water because it naturally flows into their bodies through osmosis, while saltwater fish do drink to stay hydrated because they lose water to the salty environment.
It’s a cool reminder that even simple questions can open the door to interesting physiology concepts. Learning something new today!
yes you are right
When we connect with nature, after that we start observe and think about these small small things. These small things are really fascinating.
What about fish? They need water too. You’d think this would be no problem for freshwater fish. But because their blood is more salty than the water they live in, they have to be careful not to drink it. When water goes in their mouth, they push it out through their gills, where the right amount of water is absorbed through osmosis. For saltwater fish it’s a different story. They get their fresh water by drinking salt water. They have special kidneys adapted to filter out and expel the salt.
