**Why eat chicken?**

Chicken provides protein, vitamin B12, niacin (B3), selenium and phosphorus. It can support muscle maintenance and repair and can be a convenient protein source for people with higher protein needs. Choosing skinless chicken and healthier cooking methods such as grilling, baking or steaming can keep the meal relatively low in saturated fat.

**Why not eat chicken?**

The concerns are usually less about chicken itself and more about quantity, preparation and food safety. Regularly eating fried or heavily processed chicken can increase intake of unhealthy fats, sodium and calories. Undercooked chicken can also carry pathogens such as Salmonella and Campylobacter, making proper cooking and handling essential.

There are also ethical and environmental considerations, including animal welfare and the environmental impact of intensive poultry farming.

**So, what’s the answer?**

Chicken doesn’t have to be labelled simply as “healthy” or “unhealthy.” How much you eat, how it is prepared, and what else is on your plate matter. A balanced diet can include chicken alongside pulses, beans, dairy, eggs, nuts and other protein sources.

💭 Do you think chicken is an important part of a balanced diet, or can we get everything we need from plant-based protein sources?

Very balanced perspective! Chicken can be a good source of protein and essential nutrients when consumed in moderation and prepared safely. I think variety is key—combining animal and plant-based protein sources can make a balanced diet more sustainable.

I think eating chicken in moderation can be helpful, as every food source has its own considerations. Plant proteins have their benefits as well, but may have their own limitations. Maintaining a balanced diet with protein from different sources may be the best approach.

Yes, absolutely. Chicken is a vital component of a balanced diet. You can also include plant protein, as per your convenience. However, you should be aware of the proportion, as plant protein is absorbed differently.
