**Faster exfoliation brings hidden microcomedones to the surface first.**

The first time I introduced a potent active (like a retinoid or high-strength BHA), my skin flared up within a week, tempting me to throw the product away. Understanding skin biology completely changed my perspective. True purging occurs because active ingredients accelerate the desquamation cycle from ~28 days down to a fraction of that time, forcing pre-existing, sub-clinical microcomedones beneath the surface to mature all at once in areas where you typically break out. Conversely, an inflammatory breakout or irritant reaction occurs in new areas, presenting with redness, stinging, and barrier disruption without clearing underlying congestion.

Distinguishing between active-driven follicular turnover and barrier damage prevents discarding treatments that are simply working ahead of schedule.

How do you tell the difference between your skin adjusting to a new active versus suffering an allergic or barrier reaction?

Differentiating between the two is difficult but itchiness and burning sensation can help as identification factor

Purging= where you already break out, and it clears. Irritation= new areas, burns and barrier damage. Location and sensation are the giveaway.

First you need to do patch test before you are going to start any cosmetic product, it is essential to know whether you are allergic to it or not. Secondary thing is that cosmetic products should be chosen on the basis of type of your skin i. e. Oily , dry or normal.if you’re not sure, you should consult with dermatologist.

Also cosmetic product’s pH value, particle-size of exfoliater, and it’s viscosity may affect your skin quality.
